Star Trek fans who seek out this book know it isn't meant to be read for its literary values, but rather it’s sheer fun and entertainment.
Die standing is a dispatch of Philipa’s origin into section 31 and resembles a Star Trek episode in the way it is written. It takes place between ST: Discovery seasons 1 and 2. We also meet Eminy Dax and Lt. Commander Sean Finnegan. While Admiral Cornwell has some part in this novel, I feel there’s a missed opportunity to flesh her out further. We also get a mention of Emperor Gorgious’s dear friend San in the book.
Overall enjoyable and expands on what’s seen on the TV shows.
