Sophie Duguet is a young, successful, happily married woman when odd things start to happen. First it starts off with small occurrences such as forgetting or misplacing items but it eventually worsens to complete blackouts. After her husband is involved in a car accident & then dies whilst at a care home, Sophie takes a job as a nanny to a young boy, Leo. Disaster strikes again, when Sophie stays overnight one time & when she wakes in the morning, Leo is dead - strangled in his sleep. Sophie doesn't know whether she committed the murder or not but knows no-one will believe her, so she goes on the run.
This is an odd book, the plot itself is quite good, but there are several things which I didn't like. First of all, it's written at a distance as if the reader is watching a film rather than feeling involved in the story line, & the main character is difficult to like or feel much empathy for at the start. This changed as the book progressed but I can see why some readers DNF'd it. A lot of the book also seemed to have a vaguely misogynistic feel when it came to women, & although I could see how this jibed with a secondary character's personality, it made it a rather unpleasant read.
