This short, dystopian novel was written by a Swedish author in 1940. She visited Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia, wrote this book inspired by her time there, then died of a sleeping pill overdose in 1941. Full of thought provoking passages, it wasn’t a total home run when I read it, but I think it will stick in my brain and linger for a long time.
