A Haunting on the Hill by Elizabeth Hand

Did not finish book. Stopped at 25%.

I wanted to like this book so bad but I've decided I just don't care about it. It's 400 pages long. Why is it so long? Why is there so much going on? Having just read the extremely lean original Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson this feels like it has too much going on, despite having a strong grip on the idea of the house itself. 25% in and they haven't even stayed at the house yet.
