The Hate You Drink by N.R. Walker
4.0
This was heavy going. I think some people will find the themes pretty tough to read, but there was plenty of warnings going in and it’s NR Walker so I always know that the quality will be there.
This one did tug on the heartstrings a fair amount, but I actually didn’t cry. Which is weird because I usually cry a lot at books and this author has most definitely made me cry in the past. I enjoyed getting to know these characters, though, and seeing Monroe taking the steps he needed to take in order to heal himself. I actually very much loved Erik. He was wonderful and supportive and an all round decent bloke.
There might have been lots of angst in this one but ultimately, it’s a NR Walker novel so I knew that there would be a HEA, even if it was hard won. The ending was very sweet (some of the speeches were just soooo sweet it actually hurt!) but I’m not complaining because I love a happy ending, especially when the main characters have really had to work for it.
