A wonderfully reflective book on the tempting comfort of childhood and the necessity to distance from it. I love how the author portrayed Peter’s transness in many of the flashbacks, I found the innocence of a young trans boy intensely realistic and equally heartbreaking. I also absolutely loved the new twist on Neverland and the beings who inhabit it; what it represents in not only the book’s context but in what it implies with the original story of Peter Pan as well. Loved the fairies as well, a very unique and fun design. I was a bit skeptical of the Hook and Peter dynamic at the beginning due to their age gap, but it did turn out rather sweet. I think a lot of it had to do with Peter’s childish demeanour at the beginning, but his development was integral to the story and he grew to fit the narrative.
Graphic: Deadnaming and Transphobia
Moderate: Death and Violence
