Is it ethical to sacrifice parts of yourself and use people to get what you want, and where do you draw the line? I think Evelyn Hugo, along with many other characters, effectively explored that concept in this book. I liked that each character seemed real enough to come off the page. Something about the story just didn't hit the mark for me, despite how well written and engaging it was. I couldn't relate to any of the characters, and everything seemed really superficial. I liked Cecilia much more than Evelyn, and couldn't see why Evelyn deserved a happy-ish ending with her and her family. In exchange for that happy-ish ending with Cecilia, I wish Evelyn had marred her own reputation somehow so she could escape her glamorous lifestyle and truly redeem herself.
