The Help by Kathryn Stockett

5.0

Obviously, i loved this book.
in my AP Lit class, we read the first chapter of The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien, and one of the main themes is the moral. what is the moral of war?
that question is a whole other story, but it made me question the moral of this book. of course it’s about the treatment of black people after the abolition of slavery in the south, but the way stockett approaches it, as a white person, is phenomenal. the three women pov’s that she includes all add to the depth of the story of racism because they are all so similar in different ways, and by the end you can see that. that’s the moral of the book, for the characters to realize there is nothing separating them from each other except themselves. even though they all believe in equal rights, they still have to come to terms with it throughout the book and i think that pov that stockett introduced is right on the nose.
all in all 100% do read. the humor is lovely too
