I did really want to enjoy this book and get absorbed by it and the character's. However, I found it difficult with all the different characters and the jumping in time and being told from the different perspectives. The characters were all bold and there were good storylines but I feel some parts were longer then they needed to be and others so much shorter like Ruth's death or the trial. Other parts were difficult and uncomfortable to read with the racism of the 1930s + America which was having showcased throughout. It is clear this book showcased friendship and the power of kindness as its true attributes which made it enjoyable. However, I feel like i need to watch the film to really grasp the true connection of all the characters to fully understand all of it.
