My Feudal Lord by Tehmina Durrani

challenging dark emotional informative reflective sad tense medium-paced

4.5

It's powerful for a writer, that too a woman, to come forward and declare a war on the societal norms that feed on feminine misery, compliance and submissiveness. The book, which is partly an autobiography and partly a reflection of our Pakistani feudal plus political world is an eye-opening discourse on so many levels. Durrani has an impressively bold way with her articulation that can be a sour eye for some but given what the narrative is about, it was indeed necessary. All in all, it showed the dark side of the political alliances of Bhutto's era and the trailblazer feudal power and mentality that was all about oppression and superiority complexes.
It was a traumatic experience to continue reading it at one point and an obligation to learn the truth at another. Nevertheless, will be in awe and a hangover for a while at a woman's endurance for so much trauma and strength in coming out alive from a hell.
