Always Home: A Daughter's Recipes & Stories by Fanny Singer

5.0

I am a giant fan of Alice Water’s cookbooks and philosophy, so when Fanny came out with a book of course I had to read it.

Singer’s writing is romantic, vividly detailed (slow at parts I will admit), and nostalgia tinted as she recounts her beautiful and delicious childhood. I’ve already made a few of the recipes and, as expected, they are perfect. I highly recommend the strawberry ice cream in summer.

The seven fishes chapter is by far my favorite. As a Bay Area local myself, I felt transported to a fairy tale version of the city i know well to indulge in a chilly winter feast of seven fishes in an alley of San Francisco with Fanny and Alice.
