The Old Magic of Christmas: Yuletide Traditions for the Darkest Days of the Year by Linda Raedisch

5.0

This is a fun book to read. More so if you read it during the winter season. I had no idea so many dark and spooky stories and creatures were entangled in the winter holidays.

The old tales revisited in this book are a mixture of spooky, hilarious, and bizarre. Since I knew little about any of these stories, I was repeatedly surprised by the direction many of them took. Who would have thought vampires and lycans were so involved in the Christmas season?

Definitely not a book to share with children. Yes, there are many child-eating monstrosities in this book. But they may find the tale about Santa's castrated reindeer most traumatizing. Still, they might enjoy some of the crafts the author included throughout the book, like building a witch's house without ginger.
