Jimmy Corrigan: The Smartest Kid on Earth by Chris Ware

4.0

Memorable and engrossing. This particular story is greatly elevated through the magnificent accompanying artwork that gives the material so much additional depth; Ware conveys so much through each of his drawings, whether intricate or simple, and is creative with his page layouts. Jimmy is such a sad sack that at times the consistently depressing events of his life become a little much to take, so the parallel story following Jimmy's grandfather as a child is a welcome break, although almost equally full of melancholy. There are a few details that I was left wondering about and I'm not entirely sure what the takeaway of the tale is, yet I ultimately found this worth the read.
