This book was as strange as its contents. The writing style was very direct yet highly embellished with huge vocabulary, which contradicted the novel's events and plot: as much of a mystery to the MC as it was to us. Much of the novel I found lacking because of its illogical happenings. Motives and meanings behind the surveyor's irrationality, the psychologist's true purpose, and the script inside the Tower and the Crawler seemed to fizzle out and not make much sense, but perhaps worked as intended, in that sense. The main character ended up being likeable because she remained very consistent throughout the book, reporting and detailing things similarly. Although, some parts felt pushed and unneeded-- the sudden frequency of the use of the "ghost bird" nickname by the husband in the second half, which if he really did say that all that much, would've been present in the first half. Lots of parts were left open, perfect for a sequel to tie together the mysterious loose ends: overall, it was an interesting read, and certainly more strange and a bit more loose of a plot than I had expected.
