The Littlest Cowboy, by Maggie Shayne

3.0

This is an older book but I enjoyed it. Garrett Brand is the sheriff. He's also a rancher and a gentle giant who raised his siblings after his parent's death in a car crash when he was 18 years old. He wakes up one morning to find a baby on their doorstep. The note says the baby's name is Garrett Ethan Brand. Garrett knows he is not the baby's father but believes he must help the child...he falls a little in love. The next day Chelsea Brennan comes to the ranch and accuses him of murdering the baby's mother who is her sister. Chelsea does not trust men. Her father beat her, her mother and her sister and ended up killing her mother. After seeing the Brand siblings, she comes to believe that Garrett would not have killed her sister and that he isn't the baby's father. They learn the father is a major bad guy who wants his son back. We get to see a relationship develop between Garrett and Chelsea, both of whom are unsure of how to have a relationship. There was the requisite happy ending.
