Braised Pork by An Yu

It’s my first time reading a novel written by Chinese in English, and as a native Chinese reader I can’t stop wondering how the it was in mandarin throughout reading the book, and I find it an interesting experience. I love the story, it hooked me on since the beginning but a bit disappointed in not finding what I thought would reveal at the end about the fish-man and the world of water. Is it intended to be an open-ending or I missed the hints I’m not sure. The style of the writing reminded me of Murakami a lot, since I’ve never known any other Chinese author writes this type of novel in modern surrealism. But all in all I loved it, and can’t wait to read her new book soon!
