Enjoyed this book a lot more than I thought I would. It was pretty fast paced with a lot going on and backstory gradually fed in. There are a lot of twists and even though I'd guessed at some of them there was often more too it than I'd thought.
The world is really interesting and unique. The world-building is gradual and well explained without there being too much info-dumping.
Libby comes across as quite immature and annoying at times but it feels realistic. She's a good complicated main character who is quite hot-headed but I felt like we really get to know her and what motivates her.
There are stronger romance themes than I'd usually dislike and the relationships progressed quickly. However it was well written and it did seem like friendship to relationship progressed in a typical teenage fashion. There's also a sort of love triangle situation which would usually be quite annoying but the dynamics feel different and there is more complications than a simple 'do I like this guy or that one'. Libby also seems quite firm in her convictions of who she is in a relationship with so there isn't the annoying internal to and fro as in other similar books.
Edit after reading the rest of the trilogy: Unfortunately the following two books are nowhere near as good as this first book so I don't think it's worth reading this book and getting invested.
