The Promise, Part 3 by Bryan Konietzko, Michael Dante DiMartino, Gene Luen Yang

4.0

My notes to myself when I finished reading this issue say, "HOLY WOW." So that tells you something...

So far, I am LOVING my foray into the Avatar comics. I feel like we're bridging the gap between ATLA and Korra, and how complex and gray the themes are. Zuko continues struggling with the shades of grey inherent in ruling, and coming to terms with the idea that his father, while not someone he ever wants to emulate, might have qualities Zuko can learn from. Meanwhile, Aang has is own struggle between feeling duty-bound to the expectations and detachment required of the Avatar, and his emotional attachment and longing to preserve the culture of the Air Nomads. Together, Aang, Zuko, and the rest of the gang start to consider that while certain goals and ideals made sense long ago, the new world might call for new ideas.
