The Cabinet by Un-su Kim

3.0

At first this book seemed to be just a series of vignettes in a magical realist vein, then it started to coalesce into more of a narrative, which I found to be a relief. The narrative seemed to be using the magical realism to help critique late-stage capitalism and urban life, but then it sort of became another sort of story.

I like many books which are similar to this one, and while in broad summary I find the idea compelling and it was not poorly written, it nevertheless failed to truly compel me.
