i love the concept of a hivemind at war with itself. the whole thing about a ship consisting partially of humans, as a hivemind (not the one at war with itself, incidentally, this one's also controlled by AI) is so fascinating and i love the way it is explored. i also enjoy how one of these former-ship-hivemind ancillaries (as that's what they're called) deals with individuality. frankly, i wish it would have been explored a little more, but then im a sucker for that kinda stuff. I'm going to have to check out the sequel, i think
