You Made a Fool of Death with Your Beauty by Akwaeke Emezi

3.5

I would categorize this book more into the literary fiction genre rather than romance, even though it is heavily focused on the subject of romance. I did know before starting that this is not the fluffy and cute kind of romance; it is going to be hard-hitting, and while it didn't feel that emotional for me, it did deal with topics of grief and the loss of a loved one. This rating is purely based on my love for the writing style. I have mixed feelings about the romance part of this book. While it is kind of forbidden, I don't actually think that as a negative aspect. What didn’t work for me was the instant love and the whole talking about marriage after just one month. I mean, the characters were all fully fleshed, especially the main character, which I appreciate, and therefore, I loved the first half of the book. However, the second half felt rushed, and the whole relationship seemed without any depth apart from that one thing that ties both characters together and the fact that they are both attractive humans. I wish they had given more time for it to be established and in a natural way. Anyway, it is still a good book, but the second half could have been better.
