마녀와 용의 신혼일기 1 by New Lung, Baridal
Did not finish book.
To be honest, I actually didn't start not liking this. I remember liking the first to second (?) chapters just because of the twists pulled at the end but after that (a lot of the chapters actually end in cliffhangers, I forgot if there was ever a chapter that didn't, and believe me- that got old pretty quickly), the story went completely downhill for me.
So this story starts with Wendy Blanchett, a talented young leader of the Rune Research Division in the Tower of Magic, who was introduced to the readers as a sad mess after the marriage of the subject of her 10-year unrequited love (bear with me, a lot happens in one chapter). The story quickly escalates when she spends that very night with a recent hire slash newbie (because she was sad and lonely and probably horny). Of course the very next day, she regrets it and pleads rookie Aiden Winters to not say a word about it to anyone. Then due to some very weird set of circumstances, Aiden asks her to marry him. And due to also some very weird circumstances, Wendy gave her word that she will marry him. My summarization is crap but you have to understand that all of these (including the spoilers) all happened in one chapter- that was such a bold and calculated move, how could I not continue the story?
Unfortunately for me, I should have ended things with one or two chapters. Aiden completely came with all the red flags and the complete justification is love? Being lied upon, manipulated, completely left in the darkness as your life is continuously meddled on for the sake of the other-that's not love. That's a far cry from love. You know what makes it worse? Wendy, despite being capable and completely arrogant (there's a difference between confidence and arrogance) about herself, has completely no agency whatsoever in this entire thing. On and on she was lied to and manipulated- what did she to? Cry about it, splurge some money, cry, or swallow work after work, and then get back with Aiden just because she loves him. Let's not forget that this is the same girl who was so in grief when her former unrequited love got married that she slept with the first guy who offered her comfort. I think what I hated more is the fact that her friends and her mentor/father-like figure are all just saying- yeah, what a horrible dude, give it some time because you love him and he loves you- and that just irks me off. If my friend is dating a sorry excuse for a human being, I would be that one annoying friend to tell her that she deserves better than that (because she does), even if that sorry excuse for a human being is flawlessly hot. What's good looks and riches when he's constantly making you cry? It's okay because it's love? No, it's not okay and you need therapy.
At some point, I honestly feel bad for the artist because this story is just so bad- I feel like I was reading a Wattpad story but in comic form. You're probably thinking I shouldn't expect much because the title and the summary sounds ridiculous anyway and that this is just a manhua but believe me, for the years I've been reading manga and manhua- you should never judge by the title because the stories are actually good. Most of the good manhuas I've read actually has very cringy and ridiculous titles. And in all my years, I actually read a lot of good manhua more than the bad. This, unfortunately, fell in the rare statistics of horror.
This comic is currently ongoing and while I find a lot of people gushing about it and liking it, unfortunately, I don't. Sorry, while the artstyle is good and some of the jokes made me laugh- I don't like Gary Tsu male leads with red flags and annoying female leads who have no redeeming qualities. I felt like this could've been a really good story, but it wasn't, and I'm not staying tuned to find out if it does get any better because I don't do toxic relationships.

Spoiler
she promised him that she will do anything in exchange of keeping the night a secret, when witches give their words, they have to honor it or they'll lose their powers I think-Spoiler
Aiden cried man tears and looked like a young kid who was told that he couldn't have his toy back which of course, made Wendy feel so bad-Spoiler
She quickly realizes that she was tricked and manipulated into it, which was cool move for the author, because the part where she said yes just to make Aiden stop crying and her hand was extended near to Aiden's face, Aiden suddenly grabbed her hand and held it to his cheek while smiling sinisterly- that was so good bruh, it gave me Cheese in the Trap vibe like oh boy- it was so evil and just so unexpected that I was literally shookt.Unfortunately for me, I should have ended things with one or two chapters.
