A Game of Thrones: The Graphic Novel: Volume One by George R.R. Martin
Did not finish book.
I was genuinely really excited to start this series.
I mean, the ASOIAF series as a full-color graphic novel? How could it not be amazing? You'd obviously assume GRRM would only release the rights to a really good team with basically a perfect illustrator whom everyone can basically appreciate, right?
...Eh? 😀
When I bought the first volume, I didn't really get a full taste of what the illustration style was like before buying because I first found them for sale in an actual comic book shop and the volumes come individually sealed in plastic (because of illustrated nudity, I'd assume).
Ultimately, I just, unfortunately, ended up really disliking like the illustration style. I couldn't get past it to get into what I was reading fully.
Everybody in the novel was really, overly thick (notthicc, thick) bodied like cave man-y wide across; the fingers were weirdly thick, everyone was definitely capable of crushing a bowling ball in one of their huge hands (even women)—just everything.
Also, didn't like the faces. Made characters look somehow even more like cave people—wealthy cave people...
So, I didn't finish the first novel. Didn't get past more than a handful of chapters (I did try!), specifically because of the illustration style.Â
