In 1984 Alvin Schwartz saw the release of the second of his Scary Stories trilogy, More Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. The tales presented are very brief, and collected from various realms of folklore. Schwartz rewrote them, and Stephen Gammell adds illustrations that create an atmosphere and add depth to the reading experience. This installment, like all the books in the trilogy, were beloved and well-remembered by people of my generation, 80s and early 90s kids. However, these books have become “banned” over the years, mainly at the public-school level. It was in elementary school that I first discovered these twisted tales with their haunted imagery...
