I'm a huge fan of Leckie's deep focus on culture and cultural differences in the Imperial Raadch series - it's rich and nuanced and unlike any other sci-fi I've read. It makes the aliens truly alien, and even other cultures within the human diaspora interestingly different, and these cultural differences arise organically in the story but then become important to the plot.
