Two Twisted Crowns by Rachel Gillig
4.0
maybe 4.5-
it’s so interesting to me that what got me was the relationship between her and nightmare instead of anything else & I was like losing it at the end when he “died.” the secondary romance between ione and elm was the book’s saving grace for the first like 75% before the other POVs got interesting. pacing wasn’t as good as in the first book, and I wish we got more of Elspeth in this book. I feel like she was just trapped the whole time and (yes she had her funny moments and convos w nightmare) she didn’t really do anything to move the plot along and I missed her. Ravyn was the worst main in this one and I felt like I don’t rly understand his personality even now. His relationship with Elspeth was rly important in the first book and then it was (albeit the reasoning behind his actions) not as important in the second. Understanding nightmare’s character was the best part, I was rly confused and conflicted with him the whole time, but it was really rewarding at the end (read: depressing) when u realize that he cares for her like he didn’t for his daughter. imagery was great, setting was great, writing was great (I also go to UC Davis (biased))
