A Harvest of Secrets by Roland Merullo

4.0

Enjoyed this story very much. I thought it started out a little slow, but as I got further into it, I found myself looking forward to bedtime (which is when I get to read) and the next part of the story. The characters were well drawn out, the plot interesting and with many unexpected events unfolding. I loved the setting of the Italian vineyard and manor house. This setting is not a usual one for WWII novels, but the contrast between the peace and beauty of this part of Italy and the chaos and horror of war was striking. I found the ending to be well imagined and satisfying, except for the wish to know more about what happens to the characters.... one of the marks of a fine novel. Recommended reading for anyone who enjoys historical fiction.
