Wonder Woman: Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo

4.0

There were two reasons that prompted me to buy this book - Leigh Bardugo and Diana of Themyscira. And neither of them let me down. I loved Bardugo’s version of Diana’s journey towards becoming the iconic Wonder Woman. The book has a slow start but in true Bardugo form, it picks up towards the end and ends on a satisfying note. What I loved most about this book is its portrayal of female friendship. That is one of the things that I admire about Leigh Bardugo’s writing - she can beautifully describe the camaraderie between females rather than pitting them against each other. Inej and Nina’s friendship is one of the many joys of the 'Six of Crows’ duology and she does that here too. The beautiful friendship that originates between Diana, Alia and Nim was beautiful and fun to read. If you love Wonder Woman, then definitely give this a try. But when you pick up this book, leave the images of Gal Gadot and her version of Diana behind. It would be unfair to compare the two and chances of disappointment will be less.
