Abby Jimenez never fails to make me sob. Her characters are real people, I feel like I know them, and we are friends. This one is sneaky as hell because for the first bit you're laughing your ass off. The middle you cringe, laugh, swoon, and then get angry, then repeat the process. Emma is so damaged, but remains hopeful. "If you have a choice between anger and empathy, choose empathy" I love the glimpses we get of the whole Wakan crew. This book left me feeling so grateful for my parents as imperfect as they were. I have never hated a book character more than Amber. What a fucking monster.
