Unhinged by A.G. Howard

3.0

The second book was still sexy and angsty and had many more Morpheus moments which I really enjoyed it. I'm glad to say that he has stopped the constant grooming of the heroine and Alyssa has also turned into a more feminist heroine, which is good for a change. Still, though, there are small things that annoy me in her character. I feel like the author ticks all the wrong boxes but when it comes to the major plot points that have to do with the heroine's conflict and the romance, she is pretty good at hooking you.

I have mixed feelings about this series but I'm happy to see that the romance is not so toxic as in the first book. Yes, the heroine is seen as a teen fairy fantasy but now, it's Jeb who comes off as the territorial and pathologically jealous type, the archetypal of gaslighting than Jeb AND Morpheus.

Still, I cringe when Morpheus calls her 'my little blossom." I think that what is wrong in this book is balance. The author wanted to deliver a retelling of Alice by hitting the tropes of children's fantasy but in the process of making the story sexier, the characters sound way more condescending and as predators like angsty teens.
