A Perilous Undertaking by Deanna Raybourn

5.0

I really loved this one, in fact I think I even liked it better than the first one (The Curious Beginning). I love the writing, I love the dialogue, I love the historical accuracy faultlessly coupled with a bright energy that makes the story so fresh. Veronica Speedwell and her naturalist colleague, Stoker, are asked to investigate a murder that takes place within a community of artists. They do so, and everything becomes complicated. Veronica's motivation to succeed consists of not only her own curiosity, but becomes muddied with her own relationship to England's most exalted family. I will eagerly await the third Veronica Speedwell book. I think my code name is Syringa Lilac!
