Readers of the first novel will certainly like this one too. Jade-enabled fights play a big role, but politics, global diplomacy, and intrigue take hold in the second installation of the series. Characters get set up to make decisions to prioritize themselves or the clan, and while it's dramatic, the choices are rarely surprising. Like a blockbuster movie, this novel covers so much plot that you can usually apply  Chekhov's Gun: if you're in a scene, something is about to happen. This and the frequent fast-forwarding makes this novel very plot-focused.
