Sometimes, Terry Pratchett is just so on the nose I can't believe it, especially since this book was written almost 20 years ago. Early on in the novel, he talks about how relations between the dwarves and the trolls were always rough, but then they'd seemed to be improving a lot, that things were still tense but they were getting better, and then all on a sudden, it all went to shit. Pratchett, of course, words this far more elegantly than I ever could.

Anyway, it just felt very, very, painfully relevant for today's current political landscape.

The City Watch books have long been one of my favourite subseries in Discworld, and watching Sam Vimes change and grown in each book is really quite a treat. As always, I loved this a lot.
