I have mixed feelings about this one. This book was beautifully written, but veeeeery heavy topic-wise. C.C. is extremely parentified, suffering years of emotional abuse at the hands of both parents and having to pick up the pieces of their messes. I repeatedly found myself thinking, “damn, that’s fucked up.” The ending is what honestly knocks down the star rating for me. It was so abrupt and didn’t come to any conclusion at all. It felt like there should have been more chapters, like something was missing. None of the characters are particularly likable (except for occasionally C.C. and C.C.’s boyfriend before he hooked up with her mom ). I don’t regret reading this, and it is short so I didn’t spend much time on it, but I would not read it again.
