Where Sleeping Girls Lie by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé
2.0
i knew like five pages into this book that my review would not be kind but here goes!
the writing is so boring and impersonal. sade is boring and impersonal and so is persephone and sade x persephone. somehow the author managed to make the main sapphic relationship the least interesting character dynamic.
i usually don't mind slow-paced books but with that and the writing style the reveal fell through and had zero impact. at that point i just wanted the book to be over.
parts of this were okay. most of this book was a brutal reminder that i've aged out is YA, but also this book kind of sucked. i wouldn't recommend it but it's not the worst book i've ever read. this also fell victim to being too hyped up and raising my expectations, which might have substantially lowered my rating.
