The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas by Ursula K. Le Guin

5.0

The trouble is we have a bad habit, encouraged by scholars and philosophers, as considering happiness as a something rather stupid. Only pain is intellectual, only evil is interesting. This is the sin of the artist: a refusal to admit that evil is dull and pain is boring.

Makes you truly think, how can you justify one’s suffering if you are directly causing it? It’s bringing you joy and happiness though, it’s keeping everyone healthy and safe, what would it matter one person in a scale of an entire city?

This short story is amazing and so interesting to analize and examine, it shows how our morals are shaped and can be broken when so many factors are in play in a scenario like this. Heavily recommend it.
