The Gender Games: The Problem with Men and Women, from Someone Who Has Been Both by Juno Dawson

3.0

Bought as a cis man to help educate and understand the terminology, meanings and daily life of a group of people different to myself. I was reassured to find that if you try to be a decent human being and care for others you’re already on the right path.

At 35 years old, I remember working in a toy shop aged 16 and thinking it’s crazy how the left aisle is bright pink with Barbie’s, washing machines and toy hoovers…yet on the right were the power rangers, action figures and army weapons.

This book is so much more than a day in the life of a trans woman. It throws gender into the spot light and opens your eyes to everything it controls, whatever your walk of life. From acceptable colours, toys, careers and attitudes - this book gives a much needed shake up to the reader living in 2021. It might not change your life but it’ll certainly make you aware of how and why you’re living it like you are, whether you’re being your true authentic self or an aspect acceptable to share with the world.
