Night Road by Kristin Hannah
5.0
Another great Kristin Hannah novel! Lexi Baill is a teenager being sent off to yet another living situation after her unreliable mom dies of an overdose - this time with her great aunt. Her aunt doesn't have much, but immediately provides what no one else has before: consistently, safety and love. On her first day at her new school, Lexi meets Mia and they quickly become best friends.
Mia's mom, Jude, could be described as a helicopter parent and is skeptical of Lexi at first, but soon accepts her and Lexi starts spending a lot of time at their home with Mia and her twin brother Zach. One night they head out for a party together & a tragic accident occurs and all of their lives are changed forever.
I really enjoyed the perspectives of all sides here - even though I didn't fully agree with any. While I couldn't personally relate, I could FEEL for each of the characters in this book and found many parts emotional. True to how Kristin Hannah can sometimes be, the ending of this was a bit too tidy to be real - but I enjoyed the ride.
