My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick

3.0

Well... I adored the Garretts. Their big family and craziness was so adorable. And Jase is amazing. So sweet. And I liked Samantha too. And Tim. ...But a lot of the book felt a bit disjointed to me. There were several issues that felt like they were trying to squeeze out the plot. It felt a little like a sex ed book at times--not that the ed wasn't well done (some of it super adorable--like, how does she make buying condoms into such a memorable scene?!), but that it became the point of the story for a little while. Then there was the teenage drug use issue--though that was also really well done, and probably the least invasive of all, but it still felt like it took over from the plot a tiny bit. Then there was all the politics that kind of oozed around everything and left dirty footprints wandering aimlessly, until it was everything. And that was a bit shocking. I did like the story, I was just confused for a lot of it what it was about. I still kind of am, but it was good. I'd probably even read more about them, if there were other books, which I don't know if there are, but...anyway...
