The Long Game by Elena Armas
4.0
I’ll admit, I chose to play the long game with this book. It took a few chapters to hook me, but I’m glad I stuck with it. Adalyn is a hot mess grump, with all the daddy issues. Then there’s Cameron, the brooding, unreasonably attractive, retired goalkeeping prodigy and soccer legend, with a mysterious reason for hanging up his gloves and retreating to small town North Carolina. Their banter? Top tier. The tension? Palpable. Full of small town charm and laugh out loud moments.
The plot hits some classic romcom beats, city girl (who’s also a grump) clashes with small town grump, sparks fly and secrets are revealed. Their chemistry and banter were great. Cameron and Adalyn’s journey is filled with heart, humor, and just enough emotional depth to keep you turning pages long after bedtime.
If you’re into retired soccer stars with accents that could melt butter, slow burn romance, and stories that leave you smiling like an idiot, The Long Game is your next must read. Just be prepared to fall hard for the characters and the town.
