It’s an okay book. I wanted to read something with an animal main character, and I saw that the premise of this book was really interesting. However, it reads like a gritty children’s book. That’s not a bad thing, some of my favourites are probably considered kids books, but I just can’t help but feel that the book was either too short or maybe the scope of imagination was too small. It’s almost like since the book is focused on this one character (who’s a dog), we don’t get an idea of much else. It’s like we’re tunnel-visioned by the narrative. It ends predictably and I felt like aside from moving the plot from A to B there wasn’t much else going for it. I think I’m disappointed that I didn’t get as much value from it as I initially expected.
