Garlic & the Vampire by Bree Paulsen

funny hopeful lighthearted fast-paced

4.5

  • This graphic novel was SO adorable, I loved it so much 🥺 The story is about living vegetables that were created by a kind-hearted witch called Agnes who has been putting them to use in her garden. One of them is shy little Garlic who struggles with anxiety and insecurity. I related to her so much, especially once Garlic was thrust more into the spotlight, the last thing she wanted. She's content to just tend to her garden and is overwhelmed by having to play the hero for everyone else. I love that Garlic had her dear friend Carrot to support her!
  • The premise is also fun, as it's about a (potentially) dangerous vampire! The vegetablefolk and witch Agnes are worried by the news of a vampire moving into a castle close to them. Garlic is obviously the first choice to go confront him even though she's terrified! I loved the vampire and how he wasn't so scary after all! The story itself is very lighthearted and I love how it subverted some of the common vampire tropes!
