Wahala by Nikki May
3.0
When I first read the title of this book, Wahala, the word intrigued me and when I looked over it roughly translated to trouble, and in this book "that trouble" is a girl named Isobel who is going to bring havoc in lives of three girls, that is Ronke, Boo and Simi, which is going to shake up their friendship and relationship to the core.
Ronke, Boo and Simi, mixed-race Nigerian and British girls, had been friends for years since their university. They all bonded over real quick because of similar taste, same experience and "daddy issues"
Ronke, who is a successful dentist and wish to settle down but couldn't because her boyfriend wouldn't commit to it. Boo, is married to a French man, Didier and has a beautiful daughter, Sofia. Simi is in a long-distance marriage with Martin who wants kids as soon as possible but Simi feels she never is ready for it.
Their bond is going to change dynamically when a girl named Isobel enters their life, who was also a childhood friend of Simi. At first, she was encouraging and supportive and tried to impress them by being flashy and spending on them but somewhere she changed the bond of these three friends dynamically. Slowly and steadily Isobel grew bolder. As soon as these three friends' dynamics went in vain, they started keeping secrets from each other and somehow Isobel was their new confidant. The author builds the plot slowly and steadily showing the real or true colours of Isobel.
Keeping in mind, this is Nikki May's debut novel, she has done quite a job. This book was entertaining & thrilling. Watching the dynamics of three friends change over the course of time, Even the author has cleverly portrayed the sight of the modern-day friendship of people trying to balance home and work-life. AlthoughI would have preferred if the author have included Isobel's perspective too apart from Boo, Simi and Ronke that would have made it more fun and interesting but apart from that this book was entertaining, dramatic and definitely unpredictable.
