The Great Oom: The Improbable Birth of Yoga in America by Robert Love

3.0

The first half was greatoed quickly. Amusing tales. Then things slowed down. Several times I wished I was reading a New Yorker length article about Bernard instead of this book. But it is a fascinating account of the beginnings of yoga in America. It can't be overlooked that Bernard's rise and fall are classic in any "cult" leader. Was he a true guru? Did he believe what he taught? Absolutely. Was he also interested in taking people's money? Especially the rich who could bankroll his vision? Absolutely.
