Blood Mercy by Vela Roth

What a journey this book was. It took me days to read, but I don't regret a single minute of my time reading this beautifully crafted slow-burn romance. 💖

I want to start out first by saying that this was somewhat difficult to read for me. Thank goodness for the 'Define' button on Kindle along with the X-Ray function. Those two were a godsend in order to finish "Blood Mercy." Like I said, I loved reading the book, but I found myself struggling to keep up with everything due to either the language used or the thick lore.

Speaking of the lore, oh my gods, I was in heaven. The culture, the religions, the different languages, the subtle and huge differences between the Humans and the Hesperines; all of it was a juicy feast of lore and world-building. I was blissfully transported into the fictional world of Akanthia where the story takes place.

The characters in the bore were fleshed-out and interesting as well. This brings me to the two leads Cassia and Lio. I personally love Cassia. She is an actual badass. I can't believe everything she has had to endure in her life. Her and Lio are such wonder main characters, and I loved reading about their intense, slow-burn romance.

And by slow burn, I mean excruciatingly slow. If you are hoping for a book that will pay off with a deliciously hot smut scene, this book won't. I personally loved it myself as it felt very appropriate for the overall tone and setting of the story, but I will be honest and say that on the spice scale, it is maybe a 1/1.5 🌶 Perhaps not everyone's cup of tea.

The first 50% of the book was somewhat of a struggle to get through, I admit. There was just a lot of court intrigue and politics rather than fantastical elements that would usually keep my interest peaked. But, if you can get through the last 50% of the book, it really does pop-off. I could not put it down from that point on, and once I finished the book, I immediately jumped into the second one.

Overall, I am not sure this book will suit everyone. If you are on the fence, I would recommend trying to read this book if you got a lot of time and focus to devote solely to reading "Blood Mercy." I'm usually a mood reader myself, but I honestly believe I would have been even more lost if I attempted reading this book in small implements rather than reading it fully like I did end up doing.

Loved the story, hoping the next one is even better. 🙏🐥💕
