🔪 psychological thriller.
— slow-paced, dual pov, dual timeline

“after all, my mother always said that the only way two people can keep a secret is if one of them is dead.”

first of all, the premise of this book was promising that’s why i decided to read it right away. the story follows the newlyweds, tricia and ethan, as they are stranded to a remote manor that once belonged to a renowned psychiatrist who vanished without a trace years earlier. in search for book to keep her entertained, tricia happens to discover a secret room containing audio transcripts from every single patient the missing psychiatrist has interviewed.

after reading the prologue, i knew right away that this book is going to be one of my favorites. the whole plot was perfectly written and there’s really something with freida mcfadden’s books that will get you hooked from the first page up to the last. i absolutely love to read the characters’ point-of-views, and the fmc’s curiosity over everything was completely terrifying. plus, the dual timeline is amazing and it made the story a hundred times better. the plot twists? absolutely mind-fucking! it made me stare at the ceiling for like hours.

overall, this book literally took my breath away multiple times and kept me on the edge of my seat. i loved the whole story so much, such a great, fun, and a rollercoaster type of read!
