My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand
5.0
I don't even know where to start because I love so many things in this book.
But first, my fave characters? The NARRATORS PLEASE. I love how they break the fourth wall, and this is one book where I read the acknowledgements word to word because of them. Also can we talk about their talent? Other than being hilarious as hell, they are so creative.
I always wanted to read a historical book but nothing ever suited my taste until this, a comical, romantic, cute, historical retelling of the House of Tudors in the english monarchy. This is brilliant. The way the authors changed a radical catholicism-protestantism feud in the 16th century to a simple pro animal shapeshifting and no animal shapeshifting society, so that it will be comedy.
The characters anyway are so lovable that your heart will burst, and the story itself, for 500 page book is not boring at all, and I loved it from the start to finish.
The concept of EĆ°ian (eth-y-un, for the uninitiated), itself is fairly common, but the way they have portrayed it is absolutely unique.
Not only this, but it actually sheds light on so many concepts like racism, narcissism and especially feminism, and it blends so well for a very unfavourable england of the 16th century. And just like how the authors mentioned, that's where they throw history out of the window.
That's it, everyone should read this book at least once.
