I really loved how this book explored the art of making a video game, as well as how “play” can create and shape player’s relationships!! The main characters have such a fascinating and complex dynamic that had me hooked from the beginning. The attention to detail on their interactions really helped it feel like I was watching them grow up, and could really understand how they were building a game together.
Spoiler My only complaint initially was that I hated that Marx had to die in order to leave space for a potential relationship for Sam and Sadie, but his perspective of death was so beautifully written and helped better understand all 3 characters. And I did really love how open the ending was as it felt like their relationship overall was more important than if they had a romantic relationship or not. (so criticism withheld i think but rip marx u were such a king)
Overall such a delight to read this as a love letter to video games while learning to enjoy them even more myself :)
