First off, that cover is perfect. Is it the most important thing? No. But it's pretty darn pretty.
As for the actual book: Also perfect. McQueen does not hold back, plopping readers right into the horrific setting from the get-go. There's such a sense of dread and foreboding that builds from the first page right up into its breathtaking climax. This is an amazing and effective piece of horror, but also a beautifully haunting look into the open wounds of the Black experience in America.
