the female main character, nina, has anxiety and the male main character, rhode, is insecure about his age and in case you forget these things you are reminded of them every couple of pages.
additionally, the amount of metaphors in the first couple chapters of chapters, especially those related to hockey, were just too much for me to handle. i’ll give you an example, “Nina’s body hardens like an ice rink.” and “Nina’s waving her hands like a flight attendant hyped up on too much airplane coffee.”
in conclusion, my expectations were way too high for this book and i refuse to finish a book i dislike. i hope other readers have a better time with this one.
